The thing about David Fincher’s films and I figured this out whilst watching Gone Girl is this: they’re not scary in a conventional sense, no jump scares to be had, but throughout all of his movies (maybe the exception is the Social Network oh and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) is they make you so god damn nervous, you’re on the edge of your seat the entire film and he never lets up until the final credits start rolling.
Gone Girl and I hesitate to say this because I love his work (GWTDT, Social Network, Zodiac, Fight Club, Seven, all of these rank in my favorite films) might be his best film yet… The work done by everyone in this film, Affleck, Rosamund Pike (holy shit if she isn’t nominated for awards…AWARDS.I will be shocked she was brilliant) Carrie Coon, Kim Dickins…all brilliant even good to seen Patrick Fudgit get some work.
This film might be seen as a little misogynistic especially with the character that Rosamund Pike plays but…it makes up for it with so many other competent female characters who were all very well thought out and had things to do in this film. Pike’s character is ultimately just a plain old psychopath and says little for females as a whole, but more about relationships.
Soundtrack once again masterfully done by Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor, the mood they set throughout Fincher’s films should not be ignored. I hope this partnership is never broken.
I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this film.
